Graduated Compression Hosiery is recognized as an effective prophylactic treatment for virtually all venous disorders.

Graduated Compression Hosiery is considered by medical professionals as a prophylaxis because their use aids in preventing conditions that lead to venous maladies. In different compression levels, this type hosiery is used to treat disorders from mild to critical as this list demonstrates:

Compression

THERAPEUTIC COMPRESSION
8 – 15 mmHG

Fluid retention, pain, heaviness, and fatigue in feet and legs, mild edema (swelling), spider veins, mild varicose veins, a preventive measure for patients at risk (heredity) for varicose veins

MODERATE COMPRESSION
15 – 20 mmHG

More advanced varicosity during pregnancy, varicose veins, chronic edema, thrombosis (clotting), chronic venous insufficiency, deep vein thrombosis, mild phlebitis, before sclerotherapy and vein surgery.

MEDICAL COMPRESSION
20 – 30 mmHG

Advanced varicose veins, advanced venous thrombosis, ulceration and inflammation of the lower legs, severe phlebitis, thrombophlebitis, acute edema, lymphedema, acute venous inflammation, after surgery.

Graduated Compression Hosiery is also available, with physician’s prescription, in Surgical Compression Levels (30 – 40 mmHG) for treatment of chronic, critical venous maladies.

Consulting Your Physician

Always talk with your doctor before beginning any new treatment or health regimen. Following are pre-consultation guidelines.

  1. Write a list of symptoms that concern you before your doctor's visit-be specific.
  2. Check for indications of hereditary Varicose Veins, Phlebitis, Thrombosis, etc., and share with your physician.
  3. Ask your doctor about the compression level of hosiery to suit your specific health needs.
  4. See Your Doctor Immediately:

    • If Varicose Veins become swollen, reddish, or warm to the touch
    • .
    • If rash or ulceration of the skin occurs on the leg or near existing Varicose Veins.
    • If you develop numbness or circulatory problems in your feet or ankles.

If necessary, your doctor can arrange for special X-Ray or ultrasound tests to determine the extent of any varicosity present in your legs.
